all night long (not lionel richie).

Posted in awesome, cool, ♫ on November 4th, 2006

was there ever a song you REALLY liked, possibly your “favorite song of the moment,” that was not yet officially released and was only available as streams off of the band’s myspace or purevolume page? lifetime’s “all night long” is that song for me right now. yes, I’m talking about that lifetime.

the kicker is this song is the b-side to their upcoming 7″ due out later this month (ie: less likelihood of its mp3 floating around). surely they must be doing this as a nod and a wink to their old school fans?

right now this song defines rocking out.

my latest aural fixation.

last saturday I got norma jean’s debut cd bless the martyr and kiss the child (released ‘02) and that is all I have been listening to since. it’s that good.

I dunno how it happens, but I tend to latch onto a band right before they have a new release out (and before you say it, no, I did not see any advertisements for their upcoming album that triggered an earlier album purchase) as these guys have a new one due late september.

man, september’s got it goin’ on. the science of sleep, and now this?

go on and peep their song “memphis will be laid to waste” on their myspace page.

teen anthems.

I was way into teen anthems back in the day and I rediscovered them recently, and holy fuck I had forgotten how awesome they were.

go on over to their myspace page and peep their tunes. how can you not like a song that rhymes “reason” with “aguilera” (pronounced incorrectly)?

that’s all I got.

headbangers ball

I had a two-year reunion with cable tv when I moved into my new place. I caught up with all kinds of shows I used to watch, the major one being headbangers ball. after spending some quality time with the show I’ve come to the conclusion that metal videos (then and now) can be easily placed in two categories:

1. ones that either have a wolf OR a creepy dude in a cloak
2. ones that have a wolf MORPH INTO a creepy dude in a cloak

cool.

catastrophe keeps me together.

I am a self-proclaimed biggest fringe fan of rainer maria. by this I mean I consistently go nuts over 1 song off each of their releases (whether it’s a full length or an EP) but I’m never interested in an entire album and I’ve never actively sought out a live performance.

so when their new album “catastrophe keeps us together” came out I knew I would be in for a one-song obsession and sure enough there is. I absolutely love this song right now.

check it out.

kim & sebastian

I was grabbing a quick bite at woorijip today when over the PA I heard something that can only be described as korean belle & sebastian. the dude sounded perfectly wussy-like just like what’s-his-face.

jesus.

davey, oh davey, don’t tell me that you’re crazy.

every now and then I remember that the promise ring’s very emergency is one of those rare albums you need to sit down and listen to all the way through. no skipping through tracks, no shuffling. you have to listen to every song in order.

then forget about it, come back a few months later and relive the experience all over again. I’m doing that right now.

oh, awesome

Take the quiz:
What Hardcore band are you? (revised)

Hopesfall
You are Hopesfall. You appear to be all heavy but you breakdown for way too long and stay that way for a long time but people like it. So you still rock.

thoughts on legion of doom

so I had a good week to sit down and have quality time with these songs. the four tracks that were released prior to the full length were more straight forward; a very seamless marriage of two songs with very little effects and elements mixed in.

such wasn’t the case for the rest of the songs.

with expectations of the songs being straight forward like the songs I had heard, it was a surprise to hear the generous usage of new beats and even featured rapping by the likes of KRS ONE. at first I didn’t know what to make of it. but as I peeled back the layers I saw what really is the genius at the core of legion of doom.

my current faves are lolita’s medicine [from autumn to ashes vs dead poetic] and ebola in memphis [every time i die vs norma jean f/ krs one]. thing is I don’t even like every time i die or norma jean and I REALLY like how these two songs are fused together. same deal for devil in a blue dress [coheed and cambria vs senses fail] — I really don’t like coca.

on the other hand the tracks I was really looking forward to, thrice vs alkaline trio and my chem vs static lullaby didn’t blow me away. but thanks to TLOD I have new found respect for some of these bands, presenting a new angle for me to check them out.

verdict: good times.

the legion of doom - incorporated

after ranting about it here, here, here and here it’s finally fucking out. but not in a legit way — after wading through miles and miles of endless red tape the album was “mysteriously” leaked over P2P networks and TLOD themselves are encouraging everyone to download, share, and spread the word. hell yeah.

I’ll be spending some quality time with this. I shall report back with some sort of a review.
