I’ve been all about these guys lately.

how I stumbled upon comadre.

Posted in awesome, clip, cool, hot, on March 2nd, 2009

I went to a friend’s birthday drinks thing this weekend and we got into a conversation about our mutual admiration of refused, namely the best song ever written.

we were chatting tonight and I poked over to youtube to watch the sweet video for the song (above), and that was when I discovered a list of bands that covered it. crazy town? uh, I’ll pass. the used? no thanks. but… who is this comadre?

(keep an eye on the dude in the hat and grey t-shirt on the left of the screen - he goes ABSOLUTELY BALLISTIC on air guitar at 3:10)

of the bands covering the song I felt they came the closest in their energy and intent, so I went over to their myspace page and listened to their original songs.

sigh… I’m such a sucker for the lo-fi screamo/hardcore. and with song titles like “hey, holmes, slow down” “the hole in the ship, s.o.s.” “are you guys telling jokes? i like jokes!” and “well damn, if we all ate the berries together we might as well die together” how can you go wrong?

my favorite song right now.

(watch the video here… youtube won’t let me embed it)

from the lonely island, the guys who brought you “lazy sunday” and “dick in a box.” I’ve been a fan of theirs for years, so it’s great to see they’re really hitting their stride right now.

ah, mates of state.

Posted in yay, on January 9th, 2009

lately I’ve been on the hunt for songs I haven’t listened to in a while, and tonight it’s the first mates of state song I ever heard called leave me at the tree. it’s off their split 7″ with a band called fighter d and was released back in ‘99. (has it been that long?) this song found its way on most of the indiepop mix tapes I was making back then. check it out:

they’re still going strong, you know. they’ve grown over the years but continue to maintain the brand of charm few other bands can match. check out a track from their latest:

ps- what does everyone use for an embeddable music player service?

I sang a song on rock band 2.

I’ve played rock band a few times in my life, filling in on guitar and drum duty, but I’ve never felt the urge to actually partake in the singing aspect…

…until now.

the song? megadeth’s “peace sells” of course. had the mustaine snarl and everything, kids.

funny this should come up mere days after I posted this.

I want my mtv.

if you’ve ever said “I really wish mtv would play music videos like they used to” then here’s their shot at redemption: mtvmusic.com

it’s still in beta, but you can go on there and look for that music video you haven’t seen in years. pretty much what you already have been doing on youtube, but with better video quality.

the first thing I checked for on this site was this video.
