create your band name & album cover.

Posted in awesome, cool, do it, hot, meme, whoa on February 22nd, 2009

Finally, a meme I can really get behind!

CREATE YOUR BAND NAME & ALBUM COVER:

To Do This

1 - Go to Wikipedia. Hit “random”
or click http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first random Wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.

2 - Go to Quotations Page and select “random quotations”
or click http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four or five words of the very last quote on the page is the title of your first album.

3 - Go to Flickr and click on “explore the last seven days”
or click http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days
Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

4 - Use Photoshop or similar to put it all together.

5 - Post it

I went a little nuts and made 3.

1995 BMW OPEN - Absolute power is kind of neat.

bukari - reading, listening to music, and silence.

Maillot Blanc - She must be found and stopped.

the onion: sony releases new stupid piece of shit that doesn’t fucking work.

thoughts on guitar hero world tour.

Posted in awesome, cool, review on December 27th, 2008

now that I’ve been playing GHWT for two days straight, I want to give a rundown on my thoughts thus far:

  • very, very wide selection of songs. for all you debbie downers who complain they don’t like any of the songs on previous guitar hero games, if you can’t find something on this one you probably don’t enjoy “music”
  • great new features to boost game play. finger tapping? are you serious??
  • customizable characters and guitars. it’s a bit of a time investment but hey, if you can put yourself on a basketball court and dunk on kobe, why not rocking out with travis barker?
  • moving away from the linear game play of previous games. it’s taken the focus off of “you are a singular guitar player playing these songs” and became a lot more social, more about interactivity with bandmates

if there’s one thing I wish they could have done, was to do something about that extra long load time.

the day the earth stood still despite the fantastically bad reviews.

so I caught the aforementioned remake at a matinee. you know what, it’s not horrible. perhaps it was because my expectations were set to snooze, but I didn’t think it warranted the 20% (at present) approval rating on rotten tomatoes.

there’s this one amazing shot of a football stadium getting vaporized that’s in the trailer that really pumped me up seeing it on the big screen. giants fans, you might want to avert your eyes when you see it coming.

The Day The Earth Got Pwned

this movie is matinee-worthy, but I wouldn’t pay full price for it.

if you’ve ever said “I really wish mtv would play music videos like they used to” then here’s their shot at redemption: mtvmusic.com

it’s still in beta, but you can go on there and look for that music video you haven’t seen in years. pretty much what you already have been doing on youtube, but with better video quality.

the first thing I checked for on this site was this video.

unnecessary censorship sesame street edition.

72 hour film shootout.

Posted in cool, do it on July 6th, 2008

so I am writing to humbly request your vote for (or perhaps just view) my team’s entry in this year’s 72 hour film shootout.

the 72 hour film shootout is a nationwide competition where filmmaking teams have 72 hours to write, shoot, edit and produce short films up to five minutes in length on a selected theme. when the theme “A First Goodbye” was announced on friday 6/20, my team stayed up all night writing a script, spent that saturday and sunday filming, and then our fearless director pulled an all-nighter putting it all together by monday 6/23.
