I want my mtv.

Posted in awesome, cool, yay, ♫ on October 30th, 2008

if you’ve ever said “I really wish mtv would play music videos like they used to” then here’s their shot at redemption: mtvmusic.com

it’s still in beta, but you can go on there and look for that music video you haven’t seen in years. pretty much what you already have been doing on youtube, but with better video quality.

the first thing I checked for on this site was this video.

roger ebert’s rule book on being a film critic.

Posted in awesome on October 30th, 2008

this is a very worthwhile read.

not convinced? how about some excerpts:

Advise the readers well. This does not involve informing them, “You’ll love this!” If I approached some guy in a restaurant and told him what he would love, I might get a breadbasket in the face. No, we must tell the readers what we ourselves love or hate. If we work for employers who think we should “like more movies like ordinary people like,” we should make a donation in his name to the Anti-Cruelty Society.

Do the math. If one week you state, “‘Mr. Untouchable’ makes ‘American Gangster’ look like a fairy tale,” and the next week you say, “American Gangster” was “Goodfellas” for “the next generation,” then you must conclude that “Mr. Untouchable” is better than “Goodfellas.”

A trailer is not a movie. Thus, when urged to select your “picks of the week,” you must never pick a trailer for an upcoming film. You must actually wait to see the film itself.

jon & kate plus 8 mention on the soup.

I usually don’t watch the soup, much less anything on the e! channel, but by pure accident I caught this segment:

if that doesn’t summarize the dynamic between jon and kate I don’t know what will.

blogged migration.

it’s migration season and hss is not immune to the ways of the bird — it has left the barren lands of blogger and settled in the warmer climate of wordpress! and it’s definitely not flying back in the spring.

if that made absolutely no sense to you, what I just proudly announced was that I switched my blog publishing system from blogger to wordpress. for us nerds it’s kind of a big deal.

I gotta credit mike for giving me the last nudge to push me over the edge to make the change. tack!

ever watch a clip on your windows media player and you see a shot you really like, and you’re like “oooh I wanna do a screen grab!” but when you try you fall flat on your face?

well fail no more!

addendum: turns out this won’t work with dvd playback.

amy poehler’s sarah palin rap on snl.

as hilarious as this is, what’s not hilarious is reading the video comments made by the myspace using youth of america. for instance, I can’t believe to this day there are people who believe obama is muslim. what?

get pumped for star trek, y’all.

I’m mainly pumped for the two dudes who are slightly out of focus in the back: john cho as sulu and my main man simon pegg as scotty.

the third and final presidential debate vs project runway season 5 finale.

Posted in conflict on October 15th, 2008

the third and final presidential debate, also known as 大統領候補討論会 in japan, is airing tonight at 9pm.

…which is also when the season finale of project runway season 5 airs.

america, you have to make a very tough decision tonight. and then in a few weeks you’ll make a very easy decision.

irony.

Posted in ouch, wtf on October 6th, 2008

so I hadn’t mentioned this yet, but principal photography for megaman finally ended in early september. we shot for SEVEN MONTHS on this thing.

immediately following megaman I started working on a new project the eaters. it’s a feature-length film about a band on the run from zombies, trying to get from brooklyn to long island. it’s a great script and has a very tight cast, and I enjoy working on this film a lot.

but so here’s where the irony comes in. like I mentioned we shot megaman for SEVEN FUCKING MONTHS. megaman is a sci-fi action film and there was TONS of fighting involved. I came out of it without a scratch.

yesterday, on the set of the eaters, I was about to go up a small flight of stairs when I somehow lost my balance and fell off the first step — which was like 1/4 the height of a normal step — and sprained the living CRAP out of my ankle.

what the fuck.

update: it’s not a sprain, it’s a CUBOID FRACTURE. it’s a rare thing to happen apparently, and I’m finding a real hard time finding a good resource on it online (other than people with this fracture posting on forums). anyway, there’s your update.
